When the 7.7-8.3 quake struck on the infamous San Andreas Fault in 1906, it was centered about 12 miles off shore from San Francisco. The population of San Francisco was estimated to be 400,000; now it is about 752,000. About 700-800 died from the quake and 3,000-6,000 died from all causes. Since quakes are rated on their energy; a quake 1.0 magnitude greater can cause 32 times the damage and death. So, if the epicenter of the next great quake were to centered under San Francisco, with the same magnitude,

the expected death toll would be between 28,000-57,000. If you. purchase the earthquake forecast on a regular basis, you know when it is coming. It is not the quake itself which kills, it is the collapsing buildings. Listen for the rumble to begin. It takes about 5 seconds to realize it is a quake. You then have about 10-15 seconds to get out of the building before it collapses (time practice this).
Although landslides and meteors can cause tsunamis, they are usually caused

by undersea earthquakes. The waves travel around 500 mph. So if you live on the sea & within 180 miles of an epicenter, you need these forecasts for the 20 minutes to escape that warning systems do not provide.
In general, stay off bridges, overpasses & sleep outside if feasible. Watch for after shocks. Have a full tank of gas, supplies of water, food, and medical kit prepared in advance. Bottom line: you'll make it.
